Last Day in Temecula

The city of Temecula was founded in 1989 and has about 100,000 residents per the 2010 census.  The city is typical California middle income suburban with developments of stucco homes and ceramic tile roofs with shopping centers everywhere.  There are also several wineries in the area.  There is a large Riverside County Justice Center nearby.   Right next door on the north side is Murrieta Hot Springs, a community that is similar in architecture styles of homes and shopping centers.  The 2000 census had the population at about 3,000.  It has obviously grown tremendously since then.  For us it was good to have all the shopping services we needed within 10 miles.

The weather turned crappy this morning.  It was misty and windy at 6:00 am.  Taking the pooches for that early morning potty call was chilling.  The wind picked up in the morning and continued through the day until 5:00 pm or so.  I was glad I had nailed down the satellite dish and hung a gallon jug of water on it for stability.

We had to go to Walgreens for a prescription and there was a Vons Supermarket next door.  Vons has great prices on Smirnoff Vodka, so I stocked up a little bit.  I expect liquor prices to be higher in Arizona.  We are due in Yuma one week from today.  The weather app on my phone shows temperature lows in the high 20’s to low 30’s for the next few nights in Borrego Springs.  To keep from seriously discharging our batteries, we will not be able to run the heater at night.  I guess we will have to bundle up and pile on the blankets at night and use the heater to take the chill off in the mornings.  It should be interesting.  I shouldn’t be complaining, my weather app says the temperature low for tonight in Idaho Falls will be 18f, with a wind chill of 6f, with 2 to 3 inches of snow accumulation.

It was also interesting to learn that I-5 over the Grapevine between LA and Bakersfield was closed today because of snow and ice making for winter driving conditions; something Southern Californian’s are not accustomed to.  Our youngest daughter lives in Pine Mountain Club near the top of the Grapevine and she posted pictures on Facebook of snow accumulation in her neighborhood.
