Campground Review

We are at the Lake Skinner State Recreation Area near Temecula, CA.  This campground has approximately 270 campsites with hookups in 3 campground loops with several Campground Hosts per loop.  There is also an overflow area without hookups.  Most sites have full hookups with 30/50 amp electric, water and sewer connections.  Some sites do not have sewers.   The campground is managed by the County of Riverside and they do take reservations on the web site at www.rivcoparks.org   You can also come in First Come, First Served.  The front gate is staffed seven days a week.  The daily rate is $30, weekly is $180 and monthly is $500.   They charge $1 per night per pet.  The brochure states the maximum stay is 14 days in a 28 day period, which conflicts with the concept of a monthly rate.  We have visited with people who are here on the monthly rate, so ????.

Sites are dirt and not exactly level side to side.  We had to lift one side 2 inches to make the camper level.  The space between sites appears to be about 20 to 25 feet.  There are large grassy areas and a gravel “trail” around the park.  It is a bit of a walk, but you can walk to the waters edge.  This is a domestic water supply reservoir so body contact is not allowed (no swimming, skiing, etc.)  Fishing is allowed.  On the weekend there were a lot of kids riding bicycles on the paved roads.  There is a playground with nice playground equipment.  There are no main streets or highways nearby and it is very quiet at night, except for the coyotes in the distance.  They do lock the gates at 10 pm and open at 6 am.

Nearby mountains are snow packed.                                          Sunset.

Overall, we are enjoying our stay here.  Cleaning crews come by daily to clean the restrooms and showers.  They also clean up the fire pits.  A picnic table is on each site.  The area is in wine country with many local wineries and vineyards.   The campground hosts a Hot Air Balloon and Wine Festival every June.  There is also a Native American Gaming Casino nearby.

Thanks for checking in.

Love the daily posts. Thank you. I am living vicariously through you and Rosie. I will most likely not get to do what you are doing. Have fun!

Thanks for the review. I had friends that lived in Temecula & visited them when they lived there. Was a really nice area.
