Your life can change in an instant.

Yesterday evening we were having dinner at a friend’s campsite in this RV Park.  Rosie was going up the stairs to enter their fifth wheel when she (apparently) blacked out and fell over backwards falling to the ground, but must have hit her back on the bottom step of the 3 steps going up into the RV.  I called 911 and paramedics were on the scene in about 4 minutes.  They transported her to the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center here in Idaho Falls.  After CAT scans and X-Rays we learned she had six broken ribs and two broken vertebrae.  The tips of the vertebrae were broken so the spinal column was not affected.  She is not paralyzed, nor are the injuries life threatening.  She is in a lot of pain and was admitted to the hospital for pain control and observation.  We do not know how long she will be in the hospital.

If there is a “good news” side to this story, it is that it happened last night at this campground instead of sometime next week when we would have been in a very remote location in eastern Oregon where Emergency Response would have been longer and the quality of medical services might not have been so great.   She might have had to be air lifted from such a location.

Our plans to visit the Oregon Coast are on hold until she is well enough to travel.  It may be months before these injuries will heal.

This scenario is something all full timers must keep in the back of their minds.  The simple act of walking up the steps of a fifth wheel can have tragic results.  We are grateful the injuries were not worse.

I will post an update in a few days.

My thoughts are with both of you! I'm glad her injuries are not life threatening. Yes we should all think about what we might have to face if we are in a remote area, but it can't keep us from following our hearts.

My sister in law suffers daily pain from an injury she had as the result of a fall in her own home .
Bad things can happen anywhere.

Keep us posted and tell Rosie many people have her in their hearts.

Just came back from the hospital. Rosie is improved; able to hold down food and stood up for the first time. I am encouraged.

My deepest sympathies to Rosie and to you. This affects you both. So happy help was close by.

My heart goes out to you both because I just fell on my face a week ago Friday. See: http://travelbug-susan.blogspot.com/2012/09/i-broke-my-face-fri-sep-21.html

It was a normal walk in downtown Corpus Christi. I've been walking for 59 years. Complete accident. I tripped on a curb, I think.

Monday we're going back to Corpus Christi for a followup exam with my maxillofacial surgeon. I'm going to take a picture where I fell. I want to see what I tripped over.

And you're right...Your life can change in an instant. I hope you have medical insurance. We don't.

Please keep in touch and know you're in my thoughts.

P.S. Another blogger friend fell a couple of days ago when she was out to dinner with friends at a Chinese buffet. Apparently someone lost a stuffed mushroom off their plate and her foot found it...her feet flew out from under her and she went down in a heap. She suffered a broken hand.

Please take care. Much healing love your way, even though we've never met.

Susan

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. Rosie is much improved today (Sunday the 30th). She has less pain and is holding down food.

Susan, so sorry to hear about your injury. We wish you a speedy recovery. To answer your comment about insurance, we are grateful to have Medicare and AARP supplemental insurance. Cannot imagine the bearing the cost out of our own funds.

We are much relieved that Rosie has less pain & able to keep her food down. Both things we have prayed for & her continued recovery. She was so active & healthy before the accid. That has to account for something. You are both so dear & we are grateful we met you. Appreciate your updates so much as you are both on our hearts. Please give Rosie a hug from us. Blessings, julie & Gary

Thanks again to all of you for your outpouring of care and concern. Your good wishes and prayers are much appreciated. Rosie had a tough time this evening with the pain level coming back with a vengeance and a return of nausea and lost appetite. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day. I extended our stay at this RV Park for a month and moved to a full hookup site.

LED taps come in various sizes and styles, most of which should be researched before shopping for one. Most contemporary bathroom and kitchen taps use either a single or double tap on it, depending on the budget and preferences of the homeowner. LED taps are typically seen indoors, such as in the bathroom or kitchen, since they do not rust and are considered eco friendly. http://www.cheaptap.co.uk/led-taps-c-28.html can also be purchased, and are considered a fun way to make a room memorable with lights while making the water's temperature obvious to users.
